Family Tree Design

Do you have piles of research and too many names to keep track of? Would you like a beautiful gift for a loved one that will last for future generations? Are you interested in discovering who your ancestors were, but only want a brief overview?

Bespoke, family trees provide an elegant, long-lasting record of your family, illustrating the life of your family over hundreds of years in one single image. A family tree offers a clear visual representation of everyone’s place in the family and helps keep track of vital information and relationships. Perfect as a family keepsake, or to hang in pride of place in your home, many of my clients have gifted trees as a special gift.

Each tree is custom-built and the size, number of generations and level of detail included are all up to you. I have designed trees ranging from A5 size to 3.5m in length. I can work from research you have already completed, or start from scratch – all I need is your name and date and place of birth.

Trees are professionally printed on archival giclee paper, ensuring a high quality print that will last for future generations, or supplied as a digital pdf file, enabling easy sharing with other family members.

Examples of my recent work:

For authors & book publishers:

Do you need a family tree to accompany your family memoir, social history book, historical research project, or fiction book?

I have designed hundreds of family trees specifically for inclusion within published books and private memoirs. Pulling on my experience as both a genealogist and typesetter I create attractive family trees and pedigree charts that support the clarity of the story, while simultaneously adding visual interest to your book. Complex family relationships are simply illustrated, creating a helpful reference point the makes it easy for readers to keep track of who's who.

Each of my trees is custom built to showcase the family, while maintaining a clean and easy-to-understand layout for readers. I can work with any book size, utilising single and double page spreads, and all fonts and colours are fully customizable to match the rest of your book. The final tree is delivered as a pdf file, ready for typesetting.

Please contact me to tell me more about your book and discuss how a tree could elevate your publication.

Prices & Timescales

Trees, like families, come in all shapes and sizes. The main factors which affect price are the number of individuals, design style chosen, level of detail required, whether you can supply the information yourself or would like me to research your tree, and the complexity of design (especially for book projects where space is at a premium).

Please contact me to discuss your exact requirements, but the following examples give a rough estimate of costs:

  • A family tree stretching from all eight great-grandparents down to a named individual and their children & grandchildren (six generations, 17+ individuals):
    £200 (printing costs included)

  • A larger, seven generation family tree, stretching from all 16 great-great-grandparents down to a named individual and then reaching forward to their children & grandchildren, including some aunts, uncles and cousins (seven generations, 40+ individuals):
    £500 (printing costs included)

  • A double page spread for book publishing using information supplied by the author:
    From £120

I often have a six to eight week waiting list so if you would like the tree for a particular date or intend it as a special gift please contact me in advance so I can ensure your tree is ready on time.
